What type of finish do you use for your furniture?
Our finish of choice for furniture is a hardwax oil called Rubio Monocoat. One of the biggest advantages of hardwax oils is that they keep the natural look and feel of wood without forming a film of 'plastic' on top of the wood. Additionally, it is much easier to maintain compared to traditional finishes. Our finishes all environmentally friendly and we only use hardwax oils with 0% Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
What is hardwax oil?
Hardwax oil wood finishes are typically manufactured from a mix of one or more vegetable oils and one or more waxes; the formulation may also contain a range of drying agents and pigments for color. We only use hardwax oils with 0% VOCs. European by origin, hardwax oils have been steadily gaining popularity in the North American market. Hardwax oil finishes provide an aesthetically pleasing and very natural appearing finishing method without forming a “plastic” like film on the wood (which obscures the grain and texture of the wood).
What is the best way to maintain the surface of my wood furniture?
Maintenance of hardwax oils is easier, more convenient and less time-consuming than maintaining a traditional film forming finish like polyurethane.
DO: General cleaning using a dry duster, water, vacuum, or Rubio's surface care spray.
DO: Perform recommended maintenance per manufacturers recommendations.
DON'T: Damp clean until completely cured (typically 5-7 days from application)
DON'T: Completely saturate the surface with cleaner.
DON'T: Use generic cleaning products. They can compromise the finish.
DON'T: Leave standing liquid on the surface for extended periods of time.
I spilled something on my table! Now what?
Don’t panic! But wipe it up immediately. Although your table is completely sealed and resistant to spills, you should still use care just as you would with any other wood furniture.
